Study Group

The Bellerby Study Group, now in its 25th year, is a group from Bellerby and the surrounding area that originated as a WEA class which over several years researched the village's history culminating in the production of the book 'Bellerby: a Dalesend Village' and a number of articles which are in Leyburn Library.

It has since developed into a group which meets each Wednesday, in term time, from October to April and hears speakers on a variety of subjects both of local and general interest. Members are drawn from Bellerby, Leyburn and from further afield. It is a very friendly and welcoming group and a great way to keep in touch with neighbours and meet new friends.

The Bellerby Study Group is an excellent way to get to know people in the village. You can keep your mind active through our series of interesting talks and keep physically fit by joining our summer walks.

Meetings are held in the Memorial Hall, Church Street, Bellerby at 7.30. Visitors and new members are always welcome, fees are £10 per term and guests can attend at £2.00 each per meeting.

Walks - May to October 2008

In summer, members organise a series of walks in the Dales. They leave from The Cross Tree on the village green on alternate Sunday mornings at 10.45am. These walks will commence in the Spring

We also arrange a summer visit; last year to the gardens at the Himalayan Gardens at Grewelthorpe, and following the Autumn programme we get together before Christmas for an evening meal out.

Bellerby Indoor Bowlers Club

Thursday 2.00-4.30pm and 7.00-9.30pm, Memorial Hall, Church Street.

The Bellerby Bowls Club was founded in 1992 by Derek & Joyce Langley at the behest of the Village Hall Committee.

In August 1993 The Richmond & District Carpet Bowles League was formed and the club agreed to join.

Over the years the membership has fluctuated and today the club boasts 14 members who play on Thursdays and enjoy the social spirit, engendered by belonging to the league.

If you are interested and would like to try your hand at carpet bowls why not come along, all are welcome young and old alike.
