of Caret Pal Hampson writes January 2003:-1) Machinery: The Volvo Penta MD1 was found to be
beyond repair and has been removed. The stern gear and propeller are still in place. The
boat ideally needs a 10hp inboard diesel; the cheapest new price is for a “Yanma”
at £2175 Inc gearbox and fittings although there seems to be plenty of second hand
engines available for less than £500.
2) General Appearance: The topsides are Dark blue
and need repainting above the waterline, below the waterline the seams have been sealed
with sixafix and an undercoat applied above a primer layer, so antifouling is all that is
required. The coachroof top has been renewed, below the new cover bitchuman applied and so
far 3 coats of white gloss paint. The varnished area needs sanding and re-varnishing. The
pulpit and pushpit need some minor repair and the stanchion posts need to be re fitted.
3) Rudder: when inspected I found the wood
had deteriated and have fully repaired it using west system epoxy filler it has now also
been primed and undercoated.
4) Deck: Ply covering has been removed, pine
decking inspected and replaced as required (2planks approx 4foot in length) and a new
cover of Wisadeck fitted. This is a very tough plastic coated non-slip bonded wood and should out last the
marine ply equivalent with less maintenance. It also looks smarter.
5) Mast and spars: the boom has been dry
stored since the time of this survey and is highly varnished. The mast has been striped,
sanded and several coats of cuperinol gold applied before being re-varnished.
6) Sails: the boat has 2mainsails, 2jibs,
1storm jib and a spinnaker with boom. The conditioned of which are fair to good the
spinnaker only having been used once since being purchased in 1997.
7) Electrical system: I think that this may
need re- wiring but have not checked the circuits properly.
8) Lifesaving appliances: not past on when sold
to me.
9) Navigation equipment: Autohelm was sold
before I acquired the Boat. |
