FOLKBOAT RALLY POOLBEG, DUBLIN 13th - 17th July, 2003 The 2003 rally was hosted by the Poolbeg Yacht and Boat Club which can be found on the south bank of the Liffy opposite the Port of Dublin. The club threw there heart and soul into the organisation which resulted in the most fantastic week being had by all. The racing was very well organised, with all the races being competitively fought. As often as not the results of the races were waiting for the skippers on their return to the pontoon; many thanks to RO's John Alvey, and Damien Rafferty. The purpose of Folkboat week is twofold, one to have competitive racing and two to have good time. Well Poolbeg YBC is the place for the latter. The clubhouse had been extended with a large marquee, in which the numerous social events were held. The many sponsors ensured that the food and drink flowed in great quantities, we were entertained by bands, Irish dancers, not to mention the Poolbeg members. A memorable week was had by all the participants. The photographs below will I hope bring back happy memories to the participants, and let the non-participants see what they missed.

This year the Irish Sea Area Rally will be held in Poolbeg ,Dublin, Ireland. We will be the guests of the Poolbeg Sailing Club, who have very kindly agreed to host our event. We will be berthed on pontoons in the River Liffey, just outside the sailing club, and will have the use of the facilities of the Clubhouse. The Sunday start to the official programme has been chosen so that boats travelling from the north, south and east can sail on the Saturday. Boats nearer at hand will be welcome at Poolbeg from Saturday onwards. The programme has not been finalised yet, but the intention is to have a mix of racing and social events including a barbecue and prize-giving dinner. The entry fee will be £20 or Eur30, which will cover the prizes, mementoes and admin. costs. The dinner and barbecue will be extra but will be reasonably priced. We are always pleased to welcome "Folkboat Groupies and 'Traitors'" and their boats, but since they benefit from all the organisation that goes into a Folkboat Rally, we have decided that a charge of Eur15 (£10) will be made for each non- Folkboat to help cover costs. Last year the crews of 15 Folkboats said that they would be attending the rally in Arklow and the catering and prizes were made on the basis of those numbers. For a variety of reasons, only 8 boats got there and the organisation made a loss. We do not have any funds in the Irish Sea Area and each rally has to be self-financing Therefore please make a firm commitment if you wish to attend, by sending your entry fee to Johnny White or me (see addresses below) by 1st May, so that we have an accurarate number of boats If you know of
anyone else who would like to come please pass on this information. Robin
