Wicklow 1969
This shows Folkboats moored in the outer harbour of Wicklow for ISFB
Week
May 1969. From left, they are:
Allegro FB 452(?) Lough Swilly YC, John
McAusland (facing camera looking down). I think they came second.
Wuppdich FB 310 Holyhead SC, Edgar Klaka (aft, facing away);
yours truly in companionway, age 15; Mum at mast. We won.
Miksu II FB 418 Holyhead SC, Brian Cleveland (facing winch);
George Drinkwater (Holyhead plumber) on foredeck.

There is the possiblity that the above two photos are not Wicklow 69 but
IoM 70. However, the boats match ‘69 and the background looks more like Wicklow than
Pt.St. Mary. |

Taken I think in ISFB Week Holyhead
1968 by Daily Telegraph reporter Frank Chapman (he may still live in Trearddur Bay).
Visible crew are George Drinkwater left and Eve Klaka (mum) right. My dad was probably
helming from leeward ("in the gutter"), a light airs habit I have inherited from
him. Wuppdich won every ISFB week from inception in 1967 until we sold her to Jim Yates
after the 1971 season. I think Jim came 2nd or 3rd in 1972. |
